Our Roots

Apple CAC Logo

Since 1996, Apple Counseling’s mission has been to help people with the situation at hand, whatever their struggle.

Today, Apple Counseling boasts over fifty counselors providing over 30,000 sessions to clients annually across nine offices in the great state of Texas. However, it all started in 1994 with one woman from Louisiana providing therapy in a dinky little closet that rented for whopping $75 a month. After spending a couple of years working in the mental health industry’s nonprofit sector, Founder and CEO Michelle Apple LCSW, decided to start her private counseling practice all by herself. Though it was personally rewarding, private practice as a sole provider is a lonely game. Out of a desire for a bigger impact and better outcomes through collaboration, Michelle formed a team with the goal of providing easy-going, non-judgmental, human-to-human counseling. After proving the team principles of her practice can offer clients greater breadth and depth of expertise while reaching more people in need, Apple Counseling took off.

In 2017, Apple Counseling further accelerated growth through the acquisition of the Heritage Behavioral Center, a practice that opened its doors in 1986 and catered to an older clientele. Now, under the umbrella of the Apple Counseling & Consulting Network, Heritage offers a wide range of services to a wide range of people. However, thanks to its contract with Medicare, Heritage is still an excellent option for seniors. Although the acquisition of the Heritage Behavioral Center greatly expanded the bounds of our network, Michelle wasn’t done building her team.

In 2020, Apple Counseling added another practice to the network called Family Tree Counseling. Family Tree is unique due to its partnerships with colleges and universities to provide counseling opportunities for those pursuing their masters degrees. This expanded Apple Counseling’s platform for offering affordable counseling to all at a cost of $25 a session. In addition, Family Tree is a great teaching/training facility for Master level students and those pursuing their license hours. Several licensed supervisors guide these individuals to become full-fledged counselors after completing their required number of hands-on clinical hours. Family Tree also offers mental health services to minors on deferred adjudication with our Denton County Juvenile Contract, which emphasizes our service not just to our clients but to the community.

The company’s dedication to service and accessibility has facilitated forming meaningful partnerships with nonprofits and others around the metroplex. In 2020, Apple Counseling became the sole mental health providers of Emily’s Place, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing care and housing for women and their children escaping domestic abuse. In 2021, Apple Counseling has developed an exclusive partnership with Girls To Women / Young Men;s Health and Wellness, a leading medical practice with offices in Dallas, McKinney, and Fort Worth, Texas. We also work in conjunction with the Sojourn Center to provide a continuum of care in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) level of treatment.

Along with Apple Counseling’s partnerships, the practice also supports Fortune 500 companies in providing Critical Incident Debriefing. When companies experience a critical tragedy or unexpected traumatic experience, Apple Counselors go in as a therapeutic resource to alleviate some of the emotional distress this event may have caused to its employees. Counselors are there before the crisis, during, and after to regain balance to the emotional aspect of the business.

As you can see, the Apple Counseling & Consulting Network is devoted to expanding our impact to as many people as possible. Michelle’s initial desire for companionship and her on-going desire to build the best team with diverse expertise led to a culture of growth that applies to both the people treated and our practice. Just like Apple Counselors enjoy seeing their clients blossom into better versions of themselves, the group is committed to expanding its reach to help as many people as possible at the finest level of service. With every new city, office, practice, and partnership, Apple Counseling increases the potential to help a whole new group of people. This makes mental health care more accessible, which is one of the core tenants of our practice.

We have long realized that we are stronger together, and Apple Counseling has built a multi-disciplinary team to better guide and inspire individuals, couples, and entire families with both their very real every daily struggles and seemingly insurmountable difficult problems. More brain power and more resources equals better solutions in our book, and that is why we’ve created a place where each client is matched with their perfect fit counselor. With this client-centered companion, Apple Counseling clients can set and meet the goals that they have for themselves and their families, comfortably and positively.

You can expect to find a variety of counselors at Apple Counseling of different ages, backgrounds, styles of practice and experiences to meet you where you are in life.

Child Neuropsychology and Counseling Center, P.C. provides neuropsychological evaluations and psycho-educational evaluations for diagnosis of children and adolescents 4-22 years of age who have, or are suspected of having, learning and/or behavior disorders including ADHD, auditory processing, visual-spatial issues, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other language, perception, and memory disorders. CNCC professionals are also trained on the ADOS for evaluation of autism spectrum disorder with children two years to adult.

CNCC professionals all have special training in Pediatric Neuropsychology, the scientific study of the brain behavior relationships of children and adolescents. We apply this knowledge to evaluate children suspected of neurological problems that interfere with their behavior, emotions and learning, including pervasive developmental delays such as seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, cancer, and genetic disorders.

The results of our evaluations are used to help families, medical practitioners, school personnel, and other caregivers understand a child’s or adolescent’s current functioning and abilities in order to develop effective individualized treatment plans for all of our patients.
