Eating Disorders

Believe it or not, eating disorders are the deadliest mental illnesses. While there are many different eating disorders, the most common are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Many people with eating disorders fall outside of these three diagnoses, so it can be challenging to identify whether or not you’re suffering from one if you don’t align with one of those three. A general rule is that those who suffer from an eating disorder focus too much on their weight, body shape, and food, leading to dangerous eating behaviors. Therapy can teach you how to replace unhealthy habits with healthy ones and improve your overall relationship with food. Recovery works best when you have a team of people that support you, so family-based therapy gets your family members involved to make sure you are sticking to your new healthy eating patterns.
